Cookie Policy

Last updated: November 30, 2025

This Cookie Policy ("Policy") describes what types of cookies and similar technologies we use on CryptoBattle and related services ("Service"), as well as the purposes for which they are used.

"We", "us", or "our" in this Policy refers to the CryptoBattle team and any other parties to whom we may entrust data processing as part of the project.

Important: Depending on your jurisdiction (EU/EEA, UK, etc.), you may be subject to GDPR/ePrivacy requirements. This Policy is not legal advice — please consult a lawyer if necessary.

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website. They allow us to:

  • Recognize your browser on repeat visits
  • Save your settings (language, theme, interface preferences)
  • Enable certain features (such as wallet connection)
  • Analyze Service usage and improve the product

In addition to cookies, we may also use similar technologies such as:

  • LocalStorage / SessionStorage
  • IndexedDB
  • Web beacons / pixels
  • URL parameters for campaign tracking

For simplicity, all of these are referred to as "cookies" in this Policy.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

2.1. Strictly Necessary (Essential)

These cookies are required for the Service to function correctly and securely. Without them, some features will be unavailable.

Examples:

  • Session authentication storage
  • Technical tokens for CSRF/bot protection
  • Basic interface settings (e.g., selected language)
  • Salt storage for commit-reveal voting mechanism

Legal basis (EU/EEA): These cookies generally do not require separate consent as they are necessary to provide the service you requested.

2.2. Functional (Preferences)

Functional cookies help remember your settings and improve usability.

Examples:

  • Selected interface theme (light/dark)
  • UI preferences in CryptoBattle (tooltips display, round/meme view types)
  • Last used wallet address (without private keys, seed phrases, etc.)

If you disable these cookies, some conveniences may be lost, but basic functionality will usually remain.

2.3. Analytics (Performance)

Analytics cookies help us understand:

  • How users interact with CryptoBattle
  • Which pages/screens are most popular
  • Where users drop off during round participation or meme submission

We may use third-party analytics services that set their own cookies. Information collected may include:

  • IP address (often truncated/anonymized)
  • Browser and device information
  • Pages visited, clicks, events (round participation, transaction submission, meme submission, etc.)
  • Approximate location (country/city)
  • Session duration

Legal basis (EU/EEA): Your consent is generally required before setting analytics cookies.

2.4. Marketing / Tracking

At the time of preparing this Policy, we do not use marketing/advertising cookies and do not engage in behavioral targeting.

If this changes in the future, we will update this Policy and request your consent where required by law.

3. Web3 Specifics (Wallets and Blockchain)

CryptoBattle interacts with blockchain and crypto wallets. It's important to distinguish:

  • On-chain data (wallet addresses, transactions, round participation) — this is public blockchain information, not cookies, and is not controlled by our website in the same sense.
  • Cookies and localStorage on the frontend may be used to:
    • Remember selected wallet or last network
    • Cache some round/meme data to speed up operation
    • Store cryptographic salts for commit-reveal voting
    • Reduce the number of requests to our backend/API

We NEVER store in cookies:

  • Private keys
  • Seed phrases
  • Any secrets for signing transactions

4. How We Obtain and Manage Consent

When you first visit CryptoBattle, you may be shown a cookie banner/dialog where:

  • Cookie types are briefly described
  • You can accept all cookies, reject non-essential ones, or customize categories

You can change your choice at any time:

  • Through cookie settings (usually linked in the footer as "Cookie Settings")
  • By deleting cookies in your browser settings

If you disable some cookies (e.g., analytics), it may limit our ability to improve the product, but basic functionality (rounds, memes, smart contract interactions) will remain available.

5. How to Manage Cookies in Your Browser

Most browsers allow you to:

  • View existing cookies
  • Block cookies from specific sites
  • Completely prohibit cookie installation
  • Automatically delete cookies when closing the browser

Where to find settings:

  • Chrome / Chromium: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Mobile browsers: Browser settings or system settings, "Privacy" / "Site Settings" section

Please note that blocking all cookies may affect the Service's operation, such as authentication or display of some pages.

6. Third-Party Services and Data Transfer

We may use third-party services that set their own cookies or access related information. These may include:

  • Analytics systems
  • Anti-spam/security services
  • Deployment platforms (e.g., Cloudflare, Vercel, Railway) that may set technical cookies for load balancing / DDoS protection

Such providers process data according to their own privacy and cookie policies. We strive to choose services with good reputation and minimal data collection.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time, for example:

  • When adding new cookies or analytics tools
  • When legal requirements change
  • When developing CryptoBattle functionality

The updated version will be published on the site with an updated date. In case of significant changes, we may additionally notify users (banner, site notification, email, etc., if applicable).
